Zarif arrives in Mumbai after meetings in New Delhi

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in Mumbai from New Delhi after taking part in the 5th Raisina Dialogue and meeting senior international officials on the sidelines of the event.

Iran PressAsia: Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a speech in Mumbai, India, on Thursday described relations between Tehran and New Delhi as deep-rooted.

Following his arrival in Mumbai, Zarif attended a gathering of Iranian and Indian businessmen and entrepreneurs and delivered a speech on age-old Iran-India relations and their deep-rooted trade and economic ties.

The Iranian Foreign Minister is also due to hold talks with local officials in Mumbai.

Earlier on Thursday 16 January, Zarif met with his Australian counterpart Marise Payne prior to leaving New Delhi for Mumbai.

Zarif in New Delhi met Indian officials including Prime Minister Modi, National security advisor Ajit Doval and his counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar as well as meetings with senior European officials.

On Thursday, Iran's Foreign Minister met with the European Foreign Policy chief, Josep Borrell, in New Delhi and talked about geopolitics and geo-economics issues.

It was the first meeting between Zarif and High Representative of the European Union Josep Borrell since his appointment to the post. Iran's Foreign Minister urged European countries to meet their commitments to the 2015 nuclear deal and rectify their mistakes vis-a-vis Iran.

Zarif arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday 14 January for a 3-day visit to attend the 5th annual Raisina Dialogue, 14-16 January 2020.

The 5th annual session of Raisina Dialogue started in New Delhi on Tuesday 14 January and continues until Thursday 16 January.

At the event, 700 delegations from 103 countries, including political, economic, scientific and cultural figures from different parts of the world meet in New Delhi.

The Raisina Dialogue is a multilateral conference held each year in New Delhi. Since its inception in 2016, the conference has emerged as India’s flagship conference on geopolitics and geo-economics.
