Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi

Iran will increase the level of uranium enrichment to 5% in the presence of the IAEA inspectors at the Fordow site today (November 6).

Iran Press/Iran news: This statement was made by the Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi on Tuesday hours after the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani ordered his corresponding organization to start gas injection into UF6 centrifuges at the Fordow enrichment facility on Wednesday under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Salehi said that 5% of uranium enrichment and the production of stable isotopes will be done at Fordow on Wednesday in the presence of IAEA inspectors, Iran Press reported.

He said that there are as many as 1,044 centrifuges installed at Fordow enrichment facility, and some of them will become operational again on Wednesday.

The head of AEOI also said that it had been decided that there will not be [20%] uranium enrichment at Fordow for the time being but the production of stable isotopes will be done in the facilities.

The official added that there is enough 20% enriched uranium stored in the country, adding that in accordance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), 20% enriched uranium could be produced again at the site if the Tehran reactor runs out of fuel.

He further noted that the action tomorrow will be done at the order of President Rouhani.

Salehi concluded that the IAEA had been informed in a letter on Tuesday about the decision.

Since the first anniversary of the US withdrawal from JCPOA  on May 8, 2018, and after European parties failed to meet Iran's interests without the United States, Iran has gradually taken steps to reduce its commitments to JCPOA every two months.

Referring to paragraphs 26 and 36 of the agreement, Iran has begun to reduce its commitments and has taken three steps so far.

Tehran had warned that if the other parties do not take practical action to meet Iran's interests within the next few days, Iran's fourth step will be implemented.
