Iran Press/Asia: According to media, millions of Locusts have attacked thousands of hectares of farmland in the past few days, destroying much of their farmland.
The Air Traffic Control (ATC) in Delhi told pilots to remain alert as a locust swarm came near the airport area, officials said.
The Locusts have been coming in waves into Rajasthan from Pakistan over the last one and a half months and devouring crops along their path as they cross from one state to another, though Delhi had not been affected till now.
The skies over many parts of Gurgaon turned dark at around noon as a swarm spread over several kilometers descended on the city from the Rewari district where it had settled at night.
An advisory was issued by the district administration to all the residents on Friday asking them to keep their doors and windows closed as a precautionary measure.
Millions of Locusts are likely to enter New Delhi, the capital of India
With large groups of Locusts entering the state of Uttar Pradesh in neighboring New Delhi, officials have warned of the possibility of the Locusts infiltrating New Delhi, the capital of India.
According to local officials, the weather conditions are now ready for the migration of Locusts, and if their spread in the state of Uttar Pradesh is not controlled, they will reach New Delhi in the next few days.
Locusts are migratory insects that multiply rapidly. Large clusters of Locusts can destroy the food which is needed by 2,000 to 3,000 people in one day.
