Iranian President said that his country eyes stability, security and development of Afghanistan, and suggest deepen Tehran-Kabul economic ties.

Iran Press/Asia: President Hassan Rouhani in a meeting with Afghan Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah on Saturday morning in Dushanbe capital city of Tajikistan said: “There are many opportunities for development of bilateral and regional economic relations between Tehran and Kabul.”

Commenting on drug trafficking, president Rouhani said: “A major portion of terrorism funding is supplied through drug trafficking, and this fact underscores the necessity of comprehensive fight against drug trafficking,” the President Website reported.

“The security of the countries of the region, including Iran and Afghanistan, are tied to each other and therefore, establishing stability and development in the region depends on cooperation among regional countries,” Rouhani added.

Iranian President pointed to the importance and necessity of all Afghan social and political groups participating in the development and stability of the country.

Rouhani also suggested investment of private sectors of the two countries for developing economic relations.”

For his part, the Afghan Chief Executive, Abdullah Abdullah appreciated Iran for supporting and helping the people of Afghanistan.

The Afghan Chief Executive mentioned Iran’s efforts in fighting terrorism and drug trafficking, and called for more cooperation between Tehran and Kabul in these fields.

“Iran has always been alongside the Afghan people and government, and we are always grateful for the help and support,” he said.

President Rouhani participated in the fifth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Tajikistan’s capital Dushanbe.

On Friday President Hassan Rouhani met with his Afghan counterpart Ashraf Ghani on the sidelines of the 19th Summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Bishkek. 101/211/205
