Zarif congratulates Johnson on becoming UK Prime Minister

The Iranian Foreign Minister congratulated his former British counterpart, Boris Johnson on becoming the UK's Prime Minister, while stressing on Iran's right to protect its waters.

Iran Press/Iran news: Tweeting on Tuesday, the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, once again emphasized that the May government's seizure of the Iranian oil tanker at the behest of the US is piracy.

"Iran does not seek confrontation, But we have 1500 miles of Persian Gulf coastline," said Zarif. "These are our waters and we will protect them," Iran Press reported.

 

Earlier on Tuesday, it became clear that the former foreign secretary will succeed Theresa May as Britain’s next prime minister after beating Jeremy Hunt in the race for the Conservative Party leadership.

At the last leg of his tour of six nations in Latin America, the Iranian Foreign Minister arrived in Bolivia early Tuesday and was welcomed by the country's Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carmen Almendras.

In a Monday tweet, Zarif offered his congratulations to the people & government of Nicaragua on the 40th anniversary of their revolution.
 

 

While in Managua, he said: “The Americans did not like to see even the first anniversary of these two revolutions while the two countries have already celebrated the 40th anniversary of their revolutions.”

He added: “We will continue to frustrate them for another forty years.”

The Iranian Foreign Minister also met the Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega.

Ortega said that his country will never accept the unilateral sanctions imposed by the US because they violate international rules and regulations.
