The European Union remains committed to supporting the full and effective implementation of the nuclear deal with Iran, according to an EU spokesman.

Iran Press/Europe: The EU spokesman whose name has not been disclosed, added that Europe is committed to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and lifting the sanctions against Iran.

He also said that JCPOA is approved by the United Nations Security Council and is vital to the security of the region and the wider world, Iran Press reported.

Spokesman added that the EU remains committed to the agreement as long as Iran is fully committed to the full implementation of its nuclear obligations.

He reiterated that the EU is committed to making sure that the lifting of nuclear related sanctions has a positive impact on trade and economic relations with Iran, including benefits for the Iranian people.

The 28 European Union Member States' Ministers have expressed a clear position on the nuclear deal in October last year. In a joint statement, the Member States said that the JCPOA - 'the culmination of 12 years of diplomacy facilitated by the EU' - was a key element of the nuclear non-proliferation global architecture and crucial for the security of the region.

The nuclear agreement is a multilateral agreement endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution 2231.  The IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency] has confirmed in nine reports that Iran is fully complying with the commitments made under the agreement.

In May 2018, the US President Donald Trump withdrew from 2015 multilateral nuclear agreementJoint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and re-imposed sanctions that had been lifted under the accord.

Washington reinstated a series of unilateral sanctions against Iran in early August 2018 and re-imposed a second batch in November of that year. Donald Trump has stated the goal of the sanctions is to reduce Iran's oil exports to zero. 101/211/202
