Iran Press/Europe: The British government on Saturday has summoned Tehran’s top diplomat in London, and warned UK ships to avoid the Strait of Hormuz after Iran seized a British-flagged tanker off its coast.
The Cobra emergency committee met on Saturday afternoon to discuss the crisis, which has escalated just four days before Theresa May is due to hand power to another leader, the Press Association reported.
Iran’s charge d’affaires in London, Mohsen Omid-Zamani, was also summoned to the UK Foreign Office.
On 20 July, the Director-General of Ports and Maritime Organisation (PMO) of Hormozgan province in southern Iran, Allah-Morad Afifi-Pour said the UK-registered oil tanker, Stena Impero, threatened the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz by getting entangled with a fishing vessel.

On 19 July, the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the British oil tanker 'Stena Impero' has been impounded near the Strait of Hormuz.
Refinitiv data showed the 'Stena Impero' is a British-flagged vessel owned by Stena Bulk shipping company.
