A senior MP and a member of the Majlis cultural commission said the US is afraid that Iran will transform into a major industrial and technological power in the Middle East.

Iran Press/Iran news: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on Monday, on the sideline of an open session of the Majlis, Ali Motahari emphasised that the Americans claim that Iran is after nuclear weapons, and even though Iran has announced on numerous occasions that production of weapons of mass destruction of any kind, including nuclear weapons, is against Islamic teachings and laws, the Americans say they don't trust Iran and they don't accept Iran's assertion. On the face of it, America claims that Iran is after nuclear weapons in order to destroy Israel.

The senior MP added: "But in reality, America knows that Iran is not after manufacturing nuclear weapons, and what the Americans are really worried about is that if they leave Iran alone, to its own devices, the country would transform over time into a major industrial and technological power."

The member of the Majlis cultural commission added: "America is really worried about Iran's scientific and technological progress, particularly in recent years. The Americans know that if they do not apply pressure and slap sanctions on Iran, then the country would transform into a major economic, technical and industrial powerhouse, and that does not augur well either for the United States, or Israel. They don't want us to become a major industrial power in the world."
