Tehran (IP) - Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi said on Monday that talks between Iran and the US are possible if they lead to tangible results.

Iran Press/Iran news: Mousavi added: "Talks between Iran and the US would be possible if based on an agenda that could lead to tangible results, but Washington is not seeking dialogue. Dialogue and negotiation can be held when we have a certain agenda in place and when we could get some tangible and practical results out of it. But Washington is not after talks. They are not seeking dialogue."

According to an Iran Press report, Mousavi said Iran welcomes any suggestion for reducing tensions in the region.

Foreign ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi described Sunday's JCPOA meeting in Vienna as  'constructive', saying diplomatic efforts will continue on all sides to save the nuclear deal.

"Diplomatic efforts will continue to save the JCPOA, which is important both to us and the remaining signatories to the agreement," the foreign ministry spokesman said.

"The European sides objected to Iran’s new approach to reduce commitments, and the Iranian side voiced its strong objection to Europe’s lack of practical measures, as well their detainment of some Iranians in Europe and handing them over to the US," Iran FM emphasized. "The Vienna meeting was constructive and moving forward, and discussions were very frank and decisive," he said.

Foreign ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi said on Monday that if Europe doesn’t take practical action to honour its commitments to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, Iran will implement the third phase of incrementally reducing its commitments further.

"If these efforts fail to achieve results, Iran will take the next step to further reduce commitments to the JCPOA," warned Mousavi.

Asked about the outcome of the JCPOA joint commission held in Vienna on July 28,  Mousavi said that the commission convened at the requests of both Iran and Europe. Europeans were unhappy with Iran's reduction of its commitments to the JCPOA; and Iran criticised them for their inaction, as well as following the US lead like the arrest of some Iranian citizens and extraditing them to the US at the behest of Washington.

Mousavi said these people were arrested because of US unilateral and oppressive sanctions, which even did not exist when they were taken into custody.

Mousavi said a ministerial meeting on the JCPOA with the 4+1 countries will take place after preparations are done and the sides reach an agreement.

The situation surrounding the Iran-operated Grace 1 tanker that had been impounded by the UK in the Strait of Gibraltar was also discussed at Sunday’s meeting in Vienna, said Mousavi, adding "It is unacceptable to us that a European country would seize our oil on the orders of United States. We consider this move a violation of the JCPOA."
