Iranian judo expert Saeid Mollaei

Iranian judoka (judo practitioner), Saeid Mollaei, has been named German athlete of the year at the Hans-Sachs-Haus.

Iran Press/Europe: Thousands of sports journalists took part in a vote to choose, German Athlete of the Year.

The reporters graded the athletes on their behavior, fair play, records and sporting performance. Over 700 people attended the announcement ceremony at the Hans-Sachs-Haus, Gelsenkirchen's city hall, in northwest Germany on Friday night, according to Iran Press.

Iranian judoka, Saeid Mollaei, who had become world champion in the class up to 81 kilograms last year, won the Sportsman of the Year award at this ceremony.

Mollaei joined the Gelsenkirchen Judo Team in January this year. 

The judo practitioner claimed a gold medal at the 2018 World Championships in Baku in September after defeating Japan’s Sotaro Fujiwara in the men’s -81kg final. He delivered Iran’s first judo world title in 15 years.

Mollaei also won two bronze medals at the 2015 and 2016 Asian Championships and silver medal at the 2017 Asian Championships. 101/211/213
