Special Assistant to the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament for International Affairs warned Nigerian authorities about the safety of Sheikh Zakzaky, holding them responsible for Nigeria’s Shia top cleric's health condition.

Iran Press/ Iran news: Special Assistant to the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament for International Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Thursday that Nigerian authorities should be held responsible for the health and safety of Nigeria’s Shia top cleric Sheikh Zakzaky.

Emphasizing that Sheikh Zakzaki is among great Islamic figures,  Amir-Abdollahian in a twitter message reiterated: "The Nigerian authorities are responsible for the safety and health of him," Iran Press reported.

Sheikh Zakzaky has been held in detention since December 2015 and was charged just in April 2018 with unlawful assembly and disruption of public peace, allegations that are rejected by the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN).

In 2016, Nigeria’s federal high court ordered his unconditional release from jail following a trial, but the government has so far refused to set him free.

Iranian official in the following calls the senior officials to lay the grounds for urgent treatment of Shekh Zakzaky inside Nigeria and abroad, as well as for his immediate release from detention.
