President Trump declared a state of emergency in Alabama to assist in recovery efforts after Hurricane Michael wreaked havoc in the state, causing hundreds of millions of dollars worth of damage.

Iran Press/America: Federal assistance for existing response efforts began on 10 October and will continue throughout the recovery process, The Hill reported.

"Michael" made landfall in Florida Wednesday as a Category 4 storm, with sustained winds up to 155 miles per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Donald Trump had previously declared a state of emergency in Florida on Tuesday.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey (R) had put one in place in anticipation of the storm on October 8.

Forecasters have called Michael the most powerful hurricane to strike the continental U.S. and have estimated damages up to $8 billion.

Search and rescue volunteers have located hundreds of people reported missing in the U.S. Southeast after Hurricane Michael tore through their Florida Panhandle communities, but the death toll of at least 18 was expected to rise.
