Tehran (IP) - Speaking at a joint press conference with his Iraqi counterpart on Saturday, the Iranian President on Saturday stressed that the US presence in the region would be considered as a threat to the regional security.

Iran PressIran News: Ebrahim Raisi said: "The resolution of Iran and Iraq is to develop relations between the two countries," adding: "Our relations are not typical, but rather special and strategic."

The Iranian President further added that the level of Iran's trade and economic relations is more than ten billion dollars in worth, but it can be improved if the two countries (Iran and Iraq) agree on it.

According to Raisi, the relations between the two countries will continue in areas, including infrastructure, water, electricity and energy so that the existing needs would be met from the existing capacities.

"A security understanding has been established between the two countries, and the smallest insecurity anywhere in Iraq will be considered as insecurity in Iran.", said Raisi

Referring to the presence of the foreigners in the region, Iran's President stressed: "As much as we consider it useful to conduct negotiations between the countries of the region, we also do not consider the presence of foreign forces in the region to be beneficial to it, and we consider the presence of the Americans to be a threat to security in the region. Americans are looking for their own interests, not the interests of the nations of the region."

Raisi also stressed the countries' awe for each other's water rights, saying: "As we insist on Iran's exploitation of Arvand River, we respect this right for Iraqis as well.

In the negotiations we had, it was decided to continue the water share negotiations between Iran and Iraq."

Improvement of Tehran-Riyadh ties, harbinger of stability in region: Iraqi Pres.

The president of Iraq, Abdul Latif Rashid, for his part, said: "The purpose of this trip is to emphasize the strong historical relations between the two nations of Iran and Iraq and two friendly and neighboring countries. These relations are not limited to the relations between the institutions of the two countries."

The Iraqi President stated: "We have many partnerships in all areas. Therefore, it is clear that the relations between the two countries are stable, strong and unchangeable. Iraqis will never forget the help of the Islamic Republic of Iran."

"Iran helped us when we were oppressed by the former dictator and opened its borders to the Iraqis so that the Iraqi opposition could escape from the oppression of the Iraqi dictator. We will never forget Iran's support for Iraqi Kurds who were subjected to Saddam's chemical attack," stressed President Abdul Latif Rashid.

He added: "The last time that the Islamic Republic of Iran provided Iraq with aid was the arena when the Iraqis were fighting against the ISIS terrorists."

We must pay attention to the fight against drugs because it has become a scourge for the lives of nations."

The Iraqi President noted: "Regarding the security and stability of the region, I am pleased to congratulate you (Iran) on the improvement of relations with the Saudis, which I believe, will bring stability to the region."
