Iran Press/ Iran news: "The people and the great government of Iraq have a direct role in determining their own destiny because the people of this country have a deep-rooted culture, and our relations with Iraq are extensive, deep and fraternal," Ali Akbar Velayati said in a meeting with Plasschaer on Sunday, stressing the need for avoiding foreign intervention in Iraq's internal affairs.
He pointed to the important role and position of the religious authority in Iraq. He added: "These elections will be very crucial for Iraq and the Iraqi government, and people will have a very bright future. The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready for any assistance and cooperation with Iraq's friendly and brotherly country. As in the past, we stand by the Iraqi government and people.
Velayati said: “Iran played a significant role in the fight against ISIS. General Soleimani and Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis gave their lives as martyrs of the resistance in the fight against terrorism and ISIS; these two great martyrs' martyrdom is a wrong and terrorist act by the United States.
"Undoubtedly, the Iraqi elections will be good elections, and the Iraqi people can overcome the problems due to their valuable capacities in this country and the important role of the religious authority, and we are very optimistic about the future of Iraq," he said, noting that “the relations between Iran and Iraq will develop more than before.”
In this meeting, Plasschaer emphasized maintaining the unity and integrity of Iraq and holding free elections in this country and said: “The situation in Iraq is better than in the past, and this country has a good potential in terms of economy, culture, and history among the countries in the region. And all these capacities must be used.”
