Nairobi (IP) - Shiite Muslims in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya gathered to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (A.S.) on the Day of Ashura.

Iran PressAfrica: Muslims in Nairobi recited 'Maqtal' and shared the tragic story of the battle of Karbala with great sorrow.

Maqtal is a written account containing historical monographs and narrations about the murder or martyrdom of a notable personality in history. Writing Maqtal among Shi'a is mostly for describing the martyrdom of infallible Imams and notable Shia personalities.

Over time and due to the prevalence of such works about the Tragedy of Karbala, this term became exclusively used for narrating the events related to the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his companions.

In the Nairobi gathering, after the recitation, the march began, and Muslims walked down the streets while chanting 'Ya Hussain.' This chant represented their unwavering admiration and respect for Imam Hussain (A.S.).

The speakers in the commemoration illuminated the life and teachings of Imam Hussain (A.S.). They spoke with great passion about his sacrifice and unwavering commitment to justice, which was truly inspiring for those who strive to uphold similar principles in their own lives.

Muslim community members distributed flyers that included the message and significance of Ashura. They aimed to increase awareness about Imam Hussain's (A.S.) movement and bridge the gap between diverse populations in Nairobi. By sharing the knowledge, they hope to build bonds of empathy.

The Day of Ashura in Nairobi was a reminder of the lasting influence of Imam Hussain's teachings on the Shiite Muslim community. The event brought people together to honor a great leader and reflect on the importance of unity and compassion. Imam Hussain's legacy continues to inspire people around the world.
