In phone call with EU's top diplomat:

Tehran (IP) - The Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs criticized the dual approach and inaction of the European Union toward the crimes and terrorist acts of the genocidal Israeli regime.

Iran PressIran news: The Israeli regime targeted the Mezzeh neighborhood in Damascus on Monday afternoon, which caused significant damage to the consulate building and neighboring structures.

The strike at the Iranian consulate adjacent to the embassy building, martyred at least 14 people among them seven from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) including high-ranking Quds Forces commander and his deputy in Lebanon and Syria, Lieutenant General Mohammad Reza Zahedi.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and the European Union Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell have held a telephone conversation.

In this telephone conversation, Amir-Abdollahian referred to the terrorist attack by the Zionist regime on the consular section of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus, which martyred 7 Iranian military advisers and several civilians and wounded some Syrian citizens.

He said European authorities always invite the Islamic Republic of Iran to exercise restraint while the Israeli regime, in violation of international law, has attacked a diplomatic site that enjoys complete immunity in line with the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Iran's top diplomat added it should be noted that in addition to the martyrdom of seven Iranian nationals who were on a diplomatic and military advisory mission to fight terrorism and of six Syrian citizens, including a mother and child, regional peace and security and, at the same time, the security of diplomats and diplomatic sites have been completely violated by the Israeli regime through this terrorist act.

He said naturally, if the US does not have a serious will to control and stop supporting the war crimes of the Israeli regime, Washington is directly responsible for the spillover of the tensions across the wider region.

Amir-Abdollahian went on to say Iran expects the EU to strongly condemn such crimes by the Israeli regime in a realistic and immediate move.

Joseph Borrell, the high representative of the European Union in foreign and security affairs, also stated that Israel's recent action in attacking the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus is at odds with efforts to de-escalate the tensions in the region, and called for the continuation of the restraint by the Islamic Republic of Iran. 219
