Tehran (IP) - In a phone call with Iraq's Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, the Iranian Foreign Minister condemned the shelling of Zakho city in Dohuk Province in the northern Kurdistan Region of Iraq, during which innocent people, including women and children, were killed and injured.

Iran PressIran news: During the conversation, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian expressed his sympathy to the victims' families, the Iraqi government and nation, and reiterated Iran's firm support for the stability and security of Iraq.

He also informed Fuad Hussein about the decisions taken and the views of the leaders of the three countries participating in the Astana Summit in Tehran, especially in the context of the emphasis made regarding the use of peaceful methods to solve problems in the border areas.

The Iraqi foreign minister, for his part, appreciated the Islamic Republic for its sympathy, and strongly condemned the shelling of Zakho and called it a violation of Iraq's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

He said that the claim of the presence of a terrorist group in this area is untrue.
