Iran Press/ Iran news: During his speech, Ghalibaf emphasized that the three islands are inseparable parts of Iran, warning external powers against testing Iran’s determination. He called on the government to fast-track the implementation of Article 61 of the Seventh Development Plan, which focuses on developing the islands further.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf condemned the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) for its repeated, unfounded claims to the islands and criticized the European Union for aligning with Israel, accusing them of supporting its actions in Gaza and Lebanon.
The sovereignty dispute over the Persian Gulf islands of Bu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb dates back to the period of British colonial influence in the region. These islands were historically part of Iran but fell under British control in the early 20th century. In 1971, shortly before the formation of the UAE, Iran reasserted its control over the islands following the withdrawal of British forces. The UAE, established later that year, has claimed to the islands, a stance that Iran consistently rejects as baseless and historically inaccurate.
He also expressed sorrow over the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, highlighting his significant role in Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, which inflicted major damage on Israel. Ghalibaf assured that Hamas, like Hezbollah after the loss of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, will continue its resistance despite Sinwar’s martyrdom.
Ghalibaf concluded by urging the Parliamentary Industry and Mining Commission to finalize and submit the report on the Tabas mine disaster for the upcoming oversight session.
