Fight virus, not us: Zarif wrote in Kommersant

Tehran (IP) - "Our world is facing a new phenomenon and a serious threat of "Coronavirus pandemic". If we were faced with "globalization" at some times, we would now have the phenomenon of "Corona globalization", Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif wrote in an article in Russian newspaper Kommersant.

Iran Press/Iran News: "The rapid spread of the coronavirus in the world has forced the international community to redefine individual, collective and global responsibilities," Zarif wrote.

"In this redefinition, the responsibility of the international community is weighed heavily, and many governments come to the realization that fighting the virus is considered a global issue and requires regional, global cooperation and the common action of humanity", the minister noted.

However, the US regime has increased its hostility and pressure on the international community to an unprecedented level of selfishness and lack of understanding of the current critical situation, thus combating the virus by some sanctioned countries, including Iran has encountered a problem, he wrote in his article in Russia's Kommersant newspaper on Monday.

"Iran has no access to its financial resources to deal with Corona because of severe US sanctions and is facing a humanitarian catastrophe," Zarif highlighted.

"Iran's oil income lowered by US sanctions and oil prices falling sharply, it is natural that Iran's financial capability has fallen sharply," the diplomat said.

"Anti-Iranian sanctions have also prevented the import of drugs and the equipment by the government. The imposed banking and financial restrictions on Iran do not make it clear that the goods purchased were for humanitarian purposes. Banks in various countries refrain from banking with Iran when dealing with threatening US trading in Iran," Zarif highlighted.
