Tehran (IP) - Iran solemnly marks the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Muhammad Taqi al-Javad (PBUH), the ninth Imam of the world's Shia Muslims. Today, the 29th of Dhul-Qa'da 1445 AH and the 7th of June 2024, faithful across the nation remember his sacred legacy.

Iran PressIran news: Born in the month of Ramadan in the year 195 AH, Imam Javad ascended to the Imamate following the martyrdom of his father, Imam Reza (PBUH), the eighth Imam. His period of leadership is celebrated for the flourishing of Islamic civilization and the proliferation of religious and philosophical thought throughout the Islamic world.

Imam Javad was renowned for his engagements in theological debates with scholars of various faiths, his dedication to the education of intellectuals, and his critical stance against the oppressive policies of the rulers of his time.

On this day, devout Muslims across Iran gather in reverence and mourning. They convene in mosques, takayas, and make pilgrimages to the holy shrines of Imam Reza in Mashhad and Hazrat Masoumeh in Qom.
