Cape Town (IP): With chants of ‘no justice, no peace”, protesters marched through the streets of the Cape Town city center to the parliament buildings, marking International Quds Day.

Iran PressAfrica: At the gates of the parliament buildings, activists and march leaders called on South Africa to observe a campaign of boycotting Israel by applying sanctions. The call resembles that of South African liberation movements during their struggle against Apartheid.

A cross-section of the population was represented, including members of parliament, religious leaders, and youth movements.

Inspired by the Islamic revolution in Iran, the Qibla Movement in South Africa instituted the annual Quds Day marches in the 1980’s. It quickly became a representation of South Africa’s struggle for liberation.

Qibla founding member, Yusuf Patel told Iran Press that Palestine’s liberation is intrinsically linked to that of Africa as the continent and its resources continue to be exploited by hegemonic powers, which support and artificially prop up the Zionist regime. 204
