Members of the European Parliament call for lifting of sanctions on Iran

In a letter to European Union foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell and European Council President Charles Michel on Wednesday, a group of MEPs stressed the need to lift sanctions on Iran and several other countries.

Iran PressEurope: Members of the 'Renew Europe' group in the European Parliament have called for the lifting of sanctions against Iran, Cuba, Libya, Syria, North Korea, Venezuela and other countries to be lifted.

The letter was initiated by Javier Nart, a member of the European Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee, and signed by nine other members of parliament.

In a letter to the European Parliament, members of the Renew Europe group called on the European Council to find a way to effectively reduce sanctions against these countries.

European lawmakers have also called on the European Union's foreign policy chief to ask the United States to exempt those countries from the current sanctions.

In recent weeks, following the outbreak of the coronavirus in the world, international officials and a number of countries have called for the lifting of unilateral and illegal US sanctions.

Representatives of Russia, China, Syria, Cuba, North Korea, Iran, Nicaragua and Venezuela at the United Nations recently wrote a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urging the need to lift US sanctions in the fight against corona.
