Iran Press/Europe: In a letter to the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced his country's full solidarity with Iran against US unilateral sanctions.
Congratulating the Iranian people on the holy month of Ramadan, Sergei Lavrov said in a letter, "We express our solidarity with the Islamic Republic of Iran against US anti-humanitarian policy of expanding illegal and unilateral sanctions against Iran."
Sergey Lavrov stated in this letter, "I would like to remind you of our full solidarity against Washington's anti-human policy of expanding illegal and unilateral sanctions against Iran, which, like many countries around the world, has been severely affected by the outbreak of Coronavirus." "This approach was emphasized in a telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on April 21 this year," He noted.
Russian Foreign Minister further highlighted that "Russia has consistently denounced the illegal nature of US unilateral sanctions against Iran. We have always called on the United States to lift these sanctions and not to prevent a full-scale fight against the Coronavirus. We also call on Western European countries not to be influenced by Washington's intimidation and threats and to continue to interact with their Iranian partners."
"Given the great importance of Iran-Russia relations, we will continue our active diplomatic work in the future. At the same time, we will continue to implement major economic programs and projects in Iran, despite the pressure of sanctions and difficult conditions, and will provide practical support to the friendly people of Iran," Lavrov added.
US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the JCPOA on May 8, 2018, with the sanctions against Iran resuming. The move has been slammed by the international community.
