NATO is committed to continue its cooperation with Iraq: Stoltenberg

NATO's Secretary-General reiterated in his phone call with Iraqi PM said that NATO is committed to cooperate with Iraq and help in fighting terrorism and countering COVID19.

Iran PressMiddle East: In a phone call with new Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi to congratulate him on his appointment and parliamentary confirmation, NATO’s Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg restresses NATO’s continued cooperation with Iraq, according to the official website of the NATO.

"I want to thank you, Mr. Prime Minister, for your unwavering commitment to the fight against terrorism; this is important for Iraq and for all NATO Allies; NATO will never forget the sacrifices made by the Iraqi forces and people," NATO Secretary-General said. "NATO remains fully committed to continuing its efforts to strengthen the Iraqi security forces and institutions and to step up our cooperation with the Iraqi government in the fight against terrorism," he added.

The NATO Secretary-General pointed out that he would direct NATO staff in Baghdad to reach out to the Iraqi authorities to this effect.

expressing solidarity with the Iraqi people in light of the global COVID-19 pandemic, NATO's Secretary-General highlighted that NATO stands ready to consider assistance, upon request from the Iraqi authorities.

The NATO Secretary-General also wished Prime Minister Al-Kadhimi and the Iraqi people a peaceful Holy Month of Ramadan.

Mustafa al-Kadhimi officially took office as Iraq's prime minister on Thursday, May 7, with a majority vote in the Iraqi parliament.
