Iraqi President Barham Salih speaking on the sidelines of the Davos World Economic Forum in Switzerland

Iraqi President Salih called Iran as a major geopolitical actor in the region and emphasized the good relations with Iran.

Iran PressEurope: Speaking on the sidelines of the Davos World Economic Forum in Switzerland, Barham Salih stressed the necessity of holding talks with Iran, saying that no country should dictate Iraq whom to talk to or how to conduct relations with other countries.

He also reiterated that the calling for the withdrawal of the US forces is a reaction to the violation of Iraq's sovereignty.

Barham Salih also explained further that Lieutenant General Qasim Soleimani, who was the top Commander of Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), was considered as the symbol of Iran who supported the Iraqi forces and contributed in the war against ISIS Terrorist outfit.

Lieutenant General Soleimani was assassinated along with several senior members of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) on Friday morning 3 January at Baghdad International airport.

Soleimani was the first Iranian military official to hold Iran’s highest military honor, 'the Order of Zulfiqar' after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, awarded to him by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

His name appeared in the list of top global strategists in the defense and security field in Foreign Policy (FP) Magazine in 2019.
