Lahore (IP) – At least 14 children lost their lives when the roof of a tuition centre collapsed in the Kahna area of Lahore on Tuesday evening, transforming an ordinary school day into a devastating tragedy.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m. at a residential property being used as an unregistered tuition centre. At the time of the collapse, more than 30 children were present in the classroom; the roof gave way without warning, trapping students beneath mounds of concrete and debris.

According to the Medical Superintendent of THQ Hospital Kahna, 19 children were admitted to the facility following the rescue operation. Of these, 14 succumbed to their injuries, while the remaining five are currently receiving treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.

The catastrophe struck one family particularly hard: three siblings were killed in the collapse, and a fourth brother sustained injuries. Additionally, three of their cousins were also hurt in the incident.

In the aftermath of the accident, police apprehended the property owner and two other individuals for questioning. Authorities have launched a formal investigation to determine the exact cause of the structural failure and to establish accountability.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed profound grief over the loss of innocent young lives and extended his heartfelt condolences to the grieving families. Other political leaders also voiced their sorrow and called for a transparent, thorough inquiry to ensure that those responsible are held to account.
