At least 40 people, including women and children, were killed after a passenger bus plunged into a ravine in the Danasar area of Zhob, Balochistan.

According to police, the accident occurred after the bus reportedly suffered brake failure. Eight people were injured and shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind said rescue operations were underway with the assistance of the Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa authorities, while an investigation has been launched into the cause of the tragedy.

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives, offered condolences to the bereaved families, and directed the relevant authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured.
