Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani

Qatari Foreign Minister has urged the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council to start holding fruitful dialogue with Iran.

Iran Press/Middle East: In an interview with Al-Jazeera, Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani stressed that the Cooperation Council must return coherently to represent the building block for any fruitful dialogue between the Persian Gulf states and Iran.

Qatari Foreign Minister added that it is too early to talk about real progress in dialogue with Saudi Arabia and that what has been achieved is opening channels between Doha and Riyadh, Al-Jazeera reported.

"The work of the Cooperation Council has been affected by the crisis, and we hope to overcome many challenges next year," he added.

Abdulrahman al-Thani said on Saturday that "slight" progress was made on the same issue, as he made it clear that his country is not currently holding talks with the UAE, and that talks are taking place with Saudi Arabia only.

He also held talks with the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Sunday in the Qatari capital, discussing the issues of regional developments and bilateral ties.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 2019 Doha Forum.
