Tehran (IP) - With the order of Iran’s Army Chief Commander Major General Seyyed Abolrahim Mousavi to the Commander of Army Ground Forces Brigadier General Kioumars Heydari, Iranian Army’s bio-defense exercise was kicked off.

Iran Press/Iran news: General Heydari said the main purpose of the exercise is to prevent the further spread of coronavirus in the country. 

The Commander of the Army Ground Forces stated that the target provinces of the exercise are currently Gilan and Qom, but the project is carried out on a national scale.

He said that all the provinces where the army is present have the capacity to carry out the exercise noting: "We set up screening checkpoints on the entrances of the provincial capitals to screen those who want to enter the province."

“Disinfecting public crossings and places will be another task of this exercise. The development of diagnostic and relief centers, as well as the establishment of field hospitals along with a rescue facility, are among the other measures of Army Ground Forces in the exercise.

The exercise also was kicked off in the Eastern Azarbaijan Province, northeast of Iran, against coronavirus on Sunday and codenamed Ya Ali Ibn Abi Talib (AS).

Preparing army hospitals along with health and treatment units for modern warfare, disinfecting cities and garrisons, and distributing disinfectants among citizens for prevention of the coronavirus outbreak in the city were among the measures of the army brigades deployed in the region.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei emphasized the need to organize these services in the form of 'health center' for preventing the further spread of the disease, highlighting: "This action could also enhance the biological defense of the military and increases national authority and capacity, given the evidence that the outbreak may have been a 'biological attack'."
