Iran: Shiraz University stands first in world for liver transplantation

Shiraz University, in Iran's southern province of Fars, is ranked first in the world for liver transplantation, the head of Iran's health ministry management centre for transplantation and special disease said.

Iran Press/Iran news: "The second place belongs to a university in the US with 400 liver transplants in a year," Mehdi Shadnoush added.

Shiraz University itself, he said, has already carried out 5,000 liver transplants in Iran, Iran Press reported.

The head of the health ministry management center for transplants and special diseases also said that 53,000 kidney transplants, as well as 1,300 heart transplants, have also been performed in the Islamic Republic of Iran. 101/211/215
