Leader: Authority and kindness are two complementary aspects of the police force

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has said authority and kindness are two complementary aspects of Iran's Police Forces.

Iran Press/Iran news: In a meeting with top commanders of law enforcement and Police Forces, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei pointed to the day-to-day work and efforts of the hardworking security and  law enforcement forces during Nowrouz (or new year) holidays, adding: "During the recent floods, police and law enforcement forces served the flood-stricken people round-the-clock, providing aid and relief for the victims, and ensuring security of the flood-affected regions. They truly did a marvelous job and their performance was brilliant."

In further comments the Leader praised the advances made by Police Forces and law enforcement in recent years and said: "Even though these advances are praiseworthy, it does not mean that the Police Forces have reached an ideal position, rather with continuous effort and hard-work they must strive towards the ideal. Also any factor that brings into question the integrity of law enforcement forces in the public mind must be challenged. For example a single corrupt police officer within the Police Force must be challenged and removed."

Turning to cyberspace and the internet, the Leader called on the Police to ensure a safe and secure cyber environment for people to use. He added: "Many people are using the internet and cyberspace these days, and though it offers them many opportunities and possibilities, it is also true to say that there are dangers lurking in cyberspace."

At this meeting, the Commander-in-Chief of Iran’s Armed Forces, Ayatollah Khamenei stressed the need to persist with the current movement of the Police Forces towards the ideal Police Force, asserting: "The Police should seriously counter contraband and smuggling and confront those who disturb the security of cyberspace."

The Leader went on to praise the role of Police in attaining this year’s national motto—that is ‘boosting manufacture and production’—as well as providing security in cyberspace.

Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that profit is not the only reason behind the illegal trafficking of products and warned of possible conspiracies by stating that: "It is not only a quest for profit that motivates some of these contraband smugglers; rather, there is a plot, a plan with evil intentions involved in some cases and the Police must confront this with vigilance."

The Leader added that a lack of security in cyberspace is harmful to people and highlighted the duty of cyberpolice in providing cybersecurity.

Ayatollah Khamenei referred to "the prohibition of arms trade" as another important duty to be fulfilled by the Police Forces and stated: In some countries like the United States, the sale and purchase of weapons are allowed due to the profit arm manufacturers gain; nevertheless it causes problems for the people. In our country, however, this is not allowed and the prohibition must be enforced.

Pointing out to a recent tragedy wherein a clergy was murdered in Hamadan, the Leader of the Revolution insisted on preventing the sale of arms on the cyberspace and said: "The person who murdered a clergy in Hamadan yesterday had previously published his photos with 4 different handguns and rifles, and confronting such matters falls under the responsibility of the Police Forces."

Before the Leader of the Islamic Revolution commenced his speech, Brigadier General Ashtari the Commander-in-Chief of the Police Force reported on some of the services offered by the Police Forces including active involvement in and providing security at different events such as the Arbaeen pilgrimage, identifying and confronting economic corruption, special planning for Nowrouz holidays to reduce accidents and road casualties, mobilization of forces and facilities to help flood victims and providing security in those regions, and said: During the second phase of the Revolution, with great resolution, administrative transparency, sincerity, and offering unconditional service to the people, our goal will be to achieve a Police Force in the same status as desired by the Revolution and the Islamic Civilization. 211/103
