US President Donald Trump

The US House of Representatives after a day of heated pros and cons debates on impeachment voted for President Donald Trump to go on trial in Senate.

Iran NewsAmerica: The Democratic-led House passed two impeachment charges with a majority as 216 votes were needed to impeach him.

Trump who is accused of abusing power for personal benefits and obstructing Congress has denied accusations that he pressed Ukraine for personal gains including against his Democratic presidential election rival Joe Biden.

He has also prevented his key allied to testify before Congress during the inquiry carried out by the House of Representatives and in fiery messages on his Twitter account charged that it was an illegal partisan coup by his Democratic political rivals.

Trump is the third US president to be impeached.

A two-thirds majority in Senate is needed to remove Trump from the office which seems unlikely because the US upper house is dominated by the senators from the Republican Party.
