Iran Press/Asia: Spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Geng Shuang, said that the US will bear responsibility for sweeping sanctions it imposed on Venezuela, warning Washington of repercussions and reiterating support for Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
“We stand against one-sided sanctions. History shows that foreign interventions or sanctions only make the situation more complicated, being unable to solve the problem,” spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, told a regular press briefing on Tuesday according to a RIA Novosti report.

The diplomat said that Beijing recognizes Maduro as legitimate head of state despite all the pressure put on him. He noted Chinese leader Xi Jinping has sent his envoy to Maduro’s inauguration earlier in January, and this was a strong sign of support for Venezuela.
“Wouldn’t we be able to do so if we didn’t recognize him?” Geng asked rhetorically.
The Trump administration applied more pressure on Venezuela’s president, Nicolás Maduro, announcing sanctions against the country’s state-owned oil giant PDVSA.
Iran, Turkey and Russia have backed the Venezuelan government against a bizarre move by the US-backed opposition leader to proclaim himself president, warning Washington against interfering in the domestic affairs of Venezuela.
