China believes that Venezuela's affairs must and can only be decided by its own people.

Iran Press/Asia: China maintains that all countries should adhere to the United Nations Charter, especially the norms of international relations and international law, such as non-interference in each other's internal affairs, mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and refraining from the threat of force, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying told a press briefing on Friday.

"Venezuela's affairs must and can only be chosen and decided by the Venezuelan people themselves," she said according to Xinhua.

"We call on all relevant parties to respect Venezuelan people's choice, and we support all parties in Venezuela to seek a political solution through peaceful dialogue within the framework of the nation's constitution," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson added.

The Chinese diplomat said, "Venezuela's stability and development serve the interests of all relevant parties and we hope that all parties will do more for Venezuela's stability."

China opposes foreign interference in Venezuela's affairs, especially threat of military interference and will continue to support the efforts made by the Venezuelan government to uphold national sovereignty, independence and stability, she concluded.

Iran, Turkey and Russia have backed the Venezuelan government against a bizarre move by the US-backed opposition leader to proclaim himself president, warning Washington against interfering in the domestic affairs of Venezuela.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said on Friday that his government is preparing to face a potential armed conflict with its people before the "coup d'etat".

He also announced that military exercises will be held from February 10 to 15 for the attempted coup.

The president made the remarks at a press conference held at the presidential palace, one day after he announced he will close the country's embassy and consulates in the United States. 101/213/211
