Tehran(IP) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran is scheduled to Participate in the Summit meeting of foreign ministers of the BRICS group at the invitation of South Africa.

Iran PressIran news: This meeting will be held at the end of this week in Cape Town, South Africa, and the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran will also participate in this meeting at the invitation of South Africa.

BRICS includes five regional economies, Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

The first four were initially grouped as "BRIC" (or "the BRICs") in 2001 by Goldman Sachs economist Jim O'Neill, who coined the term to describe fast-growing economies that would collectively dominate the global economy by 2050.

South Africa was added in 2010 The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran will participate in the meeting of foreign ministers of the BRICS group at the invitation of South Africa.

 Tehran hosts "Africa Day" ceremony

The "Africa Day" commemoration ceremony was held on Sunday evening, May 28, 2023, at the Diplomatic Club, with the presence of the Vice President for Science and Technology, the head of the Foreign Policy and Security Commission of Iran's Parliament, and a group of ambassadors and heads of foreign missions residing in Tehran.

In this ceremony, which was held in order to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Organization of African Unity (African Union), after the African Union anthem and the national anthem of the Islamic Republic of Iran were played, the South African ambassador to Tehran as the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps of African countries welcomed the guests, referring to the history of Africa's liberation from the yoke of colonialism pointed to the progress of African countries and the formation of the African common market in line with regional integration for the countries of this continent.

He also pointed to Iran's good and growing relations with African countries and thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for hosting this event. 

Dehqani Firouzabadi, Iranian Vice President for Science and Technology, also pointed to the commonalities between Iran and Africa and emphasized the efforts of the government to expand relations between Iran and Africa in various sectors, especially science, and technology.

Referring to Iran's achievements in various fields of science, technology, medicine, industry, and knowledge-based sciences, he emphasized the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to develop relations with African countries and cooperate with Africa in all fields.

Vahid Jalalzadeh, head of the Foreign Policy and National Security Commission of the Islamic Council, also congratulated the Islamic Council on Africa Day and emphasized the readiness of the Council to support the development of relations with Africa.

It is worth noting that "Africa Day" is May 25, which marks the anniversary of the establishment of the Organization of African Unity in 1963 by the efforts of African leaders. This organization was later renamed to the African Union.
