Tehran (IP) - In his meeting with HE Qais Bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion of Oman, Iran's Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance signed a joint investment memorandum and preferential trade agreements (PTAs) between the two countries.

Iran PressIran news: According to Shada, Ehsan Khandouzi during a meeting with HE Qais Bin Mohammad Al Yousef in Tehran stated: "In the past year, the economic ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kingdom of Oman were improving in various dimensions, and with the visit of the president of Iran to Oman and the warm welcome of the Omani side the improvements were accelerated."

Khandouzi also pointed to the two billion dollar trade between Iran and Oman and said: "In our opinion, the trade volume between the two countries is not very satisfactory and proportionate given to the level of cooperation and political will of the two countries."

Referring to the holding of several meetings between investment delegations of Iran and Oman and the agreement on the joint text for investment, the Minister of Economy of Iran hoped that in the first official meeting between the two countries, a joint investment memorandum would be signed by the parties.

In response to the proposal of Oman's Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment Promotion to sign a preferential trade agreement between the two countries, Khandouzi said: "We fully agree with the proposal and will definitely support it in the cabinet meeting."

The Iranian minister said: "The deeper stage of the relationship between the two countries is to enter the field of joint investments between Iran and Oman."

Referring to Oman's agreement to establish Iran Khodro's office in Oman, he said: "If this leads to production in this country, it is a clear example of joint investment, but in our opinion, we can also produce energy, and do joint projects with each other."

HE Qais Bin Mohammed Al Yousef also referred to his visit to Iran at the head of a 200-person delegation of Omani businessmen and said that it is a sign of Oman's serious desire to develop business cooperation with Iran.

Expressing his surprise at the progress of Iranian industrialists, Bin Mohammed termed the signing of the joint investment agreement between the two countries as an important step in the development of economic cooperation between Iran and Oman.

Referring to the negotiations between representatives of the private sector of Oman and Iran Khodro Company for the establishment of an office in Oman, Omani Minister said: "I will examine the production of cars by the company in the form of a joint investment in Oman."

He stated: "Considering the innovation and very good progress of Iranian companies, we want these companies to export their products to Oman and neighboring countries by establishing a branch in Oman."

Qais Bin Mohammed Al Yousef also called for the cooperation of the Ministry of Economy in signing a preferential trade agreement with Iran to facilitate the exports of the two countries.
