Geneva (IP) - The Iranian Foreign Minister says the status quo of the JCPOA is the result of the US political miscalculation.

Iran PressEurope: Speaking at the annual Conference for the Reduction and Limitation of Armaments on Tuesday, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said in case the international nuclear agreement was discussed without prerequisite and within the defined farmwork, it would come into effect.

Iran's Foreign Minister left Tehran for Geneva on Sunday to participate in the Human Rights Council meeting and the annual Conference for the Reduction and Limitation of Armaments.

Stressing Iran's readiness to finalize the deal, Amir-Abdollahian attributed the hindrance in the finalization to the US and stressed that it was the US that should practice its will to make a decision.

Iran's international nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), was signed between the country and the P5+1 group, including Russia, China, the UK, France, the US, and Germany in 2015, but the US withdrew from the agreement on May 18, 2018, re-imposing more sanctions on Iran.

Elsewhere in his speech, the Iranian FM referred to the Ukrainian war and pointed out that Iran, as a victim of war and unilateral sanctions, emphasized the respect for the countries' territorial integrity, UN Charter, and avoidance of bullying and force in international relations.

He called the disarmament conference the only entity which could help ensure international peace and security through multilateral negotiations.

Without taking concrete measures to eliminate weapons of mass destruction on the Earth, especially nuclear weapons, ensuring global and regional peace and security would be unrealistic, Amir-Abdollahian stated.

Iran warns IAEA BoG against any unwise act

Amir-Abdollahian warned against any possible unwise decision by the IAEA Board of Governors' upcoming meeting in March. "Iran reserves its right to give an appropriate response," he added.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran’s nuclear program is fully peaceful and will remain so forever. Iran is determined, as confirmed till now, to remain fully committed to its obligations under its comprehensive safeguards agreement," Amir Abdollahian said in a statement addressing the High-Level Segment of the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva.
