Tehran (IP)- Iranian Foreign Minister, who arrived in Geneva to participate in the Human Rights Council meeting, met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday.

Iran PressEurope: Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, arrived in Geneva on Sunday night to participate in the 52nd meeting of the Human Rights Council and also the annual meeting of the Conference on Disarmament and will meet with some foreign officials during the visit.

Kazem Gharib-Abadi, the secretary of the High Council for Human Rights and deputy's head of the Iranian judiciary, and Nasser Kanani, the Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will also accompany Iran's top diplomat.

He is going to attend the high-ranking officials' section of the 52nd meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council and explain the positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran on human rights issues.

The annual meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council, which can be referred to as the European equivalent of the annual meeting of the General Assembly, has gained great importance in the last ten years due to the greater attention of public opinion to issues related to human rights.

On the other hand, the Human Rights Council is becoming a competitor to the Security Council due to reasons such as the universality of the concept of human rights, the possibility of the presence of non-governmental organizations and various international institutions, and the lack of veto rights for its members.
