Tehran (IP) - The first meeting of the blood transfusion organization of G5 countries, namely Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan plus the World Health Organization, was held on Tuesday in Tehran.

Bahram Einollahi, Minister of Health, Treatment and Medical Education, Mostafa Jamali, CEO of Blood Transfusion Organization, and Hossein Ali Shahriari, Chairman of the Health and Medical Commission of the Parliament, were among the other guests of the event.

Mostafa Jamali, CEO of the Blood Transfusion Organization, said the aim of the meeting is to recognize the capacity of member countries and benefit from the facilities of the World Health Organization.

Referring to the fact that 118 million blood donations are made in the world every year, he said: "Iran has about 20% of the global share."

Health Minister Bahram Einollahi at the 25th meeting of senior experts of the Group of Five countries in the field of health stated: "WHO has emphasized that blood donation should be completely voluntary and free."

According to him, about a third of the Eastern Mediterranean countries still do not have access to enough blood to meet their needs, and there is not enough access to plasma-derived medicines in some countries.

In the end, he said: "Creating a network and regional cooperation should be done among the member countries."

Attending among the journalists he added: "After the earthquake in Turkiye, there have been concerns about the occurrence of some diseases, and the border posts are located in the border areas and health experts are monitoring the diseases in order to monitor diseases such as cholera and polio."
