Tehran (IP) - The special operation carried out by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan against the Iranian spy network continues, Trend News Agency report quoted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan.

Iran PressAsia: The operation is taking place in Baku and other regions of the republic.

Trend News Agency reported that "as a result of the operation, 7 people were detained.

Trend introduced them as 1. A.T. Karimov, 2. E.A. Rahimov, 3. I. A. Alekperov, 4. M.N. Jafarov, 5. H.H. Jabbarli, 6. F.S.Abdulov and 7. A.A. Dzhumshudov.

No further information about the arrested people provided yet.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan is conducting a special investigation of the SalamNews website and InterAz TV which they believed are pro-Iranian media outlets in Azerbaijan.

According to the earlier report by Trend these seven people were detained during the special operation on the SalamNews website and InterAz TV channel sites.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan charged these seven people with the Iranian spy network.

This allegation comes days after an armed attack on Baku’s embassy in Tehran that left a security guard dead and wounded two others.

On Friday, January 27, 2023, a gunman attacked the embassy of Azerbaijan's Republic on Friday; He killed one security guard and wounded two others.

The primary evidence shows that the gunmen's motivation to attack the embassy is personal, yet judicial investigations are underway to extract more about the motivation of the attack and its nature.

In a joint Press Conference with the Azeri ambassador to Tehran on Friday, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said the investigation of the case kicked off on the order of President Raisi immediately after the incident. 

Amir-Abdollahian recalled that the incident was not a terrorist one and the gunman merely carried out the attack with personal motivations.

On Tuesday, Ibrahim Raisi expressed his condolences to the President of Azerbaijan regarding the attack on the embassy.

According to the official website of the President of Azerbaijan, President Raisi expressed his condolences to President Ilham Aliyev and the family of the deceased on the death of Orkhan Askerov, the head of the security service of the embassy in Tehran, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Although the attacker, Yasin Huseynzade explained the attack by the fact that his wife had been detained in the embassy for a while nine months ago, the official authorities of Azerbaijan rejected what he said.

Calling the incident a terrorist, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry summoned the Iranian ambassador to Baku, Abbas Mousavi, on the same day.

Azerbaijan on Tuesday warned its citizens against unnecessary travel to Iran.

Following the deadly assault, Azerbaijan evacuated its officials from the embassy, including those who suffered as a result of the attack and completely suspended the work of the embassy in Tehran.
