Algiers (IP) - The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament said that Iran and Algeria have the possibility to cooperate in the field of knowledge-based issues, infrastructure and energy studies, especially oil and gas.

Iran PressIran News: According to ICANA, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf met and talked with Ibrahim Boughali, the Algerian Speaker of the People's National Assembly (lower house of Parliament), on the sidelines of the 17th meeting of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation member states, which was held in Algiers, the capital of Algeria, on Sunday evening (January 26).

In this meeting, referring to the key role of the Parliament in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ghalibaf said: “The government and Parliament of Algeria and Iran must have a new and specific plan for relations, one of the solutions of which is to try to hold a joint economic commission in a short time and in the high level.”

He stated that Iran currently has a large volume of trade exchanges with Oman, the UAE, Türkiye, Qatar, Iraq, Pakistan, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Russia, and China, and its economic balance with these countries is more than $80 billion. This is while the trade relations between Iran and Algeria are only $100 million which is unacceptable.

“The two countries have the possibility to have serious communication in the field of knowledge-based issues and infrastructures,” Ghalibaf noted.
