Tashkent (IP) - Iranian Foreign Minister stressed that the Islamic Republic is always committed to supporting and helping the brotherly nation of Pakistan in difficult situations.

Iran PressAsia: Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks in a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Bilawal Bhutto Zardari which was held on the sidelines of the 26th Meeting of the ECO Council of Ministers (COM) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Expressing regret and sympathy for the recent flood in Pakistan, he stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran is always committed to supporting and helping the brotherly nation of Pakistan in difficult situations.

Referring to the progress achieved in the completion and implementation of agreements between the two countries, including in the fields of electricity and gas, he expressed hope that the free trade agreement negotiations between the two countries would be signed as soon as possible and trade exchanges would increase.

He hailed the role of border markets in promoting the level of trade, and sustainable security and also improving the border residents’ livelihood.

He described the ECO organization as a suitable platform for the expansion of regional cooperation and called for the strengthening of this cooperation, especially in the field of transit, including the ECO freight train and the railway route under the relevant international conventions.

Meanwhile, Zardari pointed to deep ties between the Iranian and Pakistani nations, emphasized Iran’s important position in the foreign policy of Pakistan, and termed cooperation between the two countries as benefiting the two nations and South Asia.

He hailed bilateral ties as well as the capabilities of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Reviewing the developments in Afghanistan, the two sides stressed forming an inclusive government as the basis for recognizing the government in Afghanistan and reminded the importance of maintaining the existing consensus in this regard among Afghanistan's neighboring countries and other actors.
