Tehran (IP) - Home-grown Iranian drones targeted what the Israeli media says was a mock version of an Israeli Navy base during large-scale military exercises, which the Iranian Army has undertaken in a zone spanning from the country’s southeastern ports and waters to the northern tip of the Indian Ocean.

Iran PressIran news: During the main stage of the Zolfaqar 1401 joint drills on Saturday, the Iranian Army's combat drones carried out close air support (CAS) operations and attacked ground sites as well.

Zolfaqar 1401 drills kicked off late on Thursday night, and feature parts of the infantry, armored and mechanized units, surface, sub-surface and flying vessels, air defense systems, members of the marine commando force, and strategic bombers.

Footage published by Iran Press showed the Hengam-class landing ship IRIS Lavan launching an Ababil suicide drone toward predetermined targets, what the Israeli media called the simulated naval base.

The report by the Israeli media cited Twitter accounts dedicated to open-source intelligence-gathering that pointed out that the mock base was designed with a similar building layout to the Eilat Naval Base, in the Red Sea coast city of the same name.
