Russia (IP) – Iran's Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development said that transport plays a vital role in the expansion of commercial and economic cooperation between Iran and Russia.

Iran PressIran News: In an interview with Iran Press correspondent in Russia, Shahriar Afandizadeh stated that the North-South Corridor is one of the most important transportation routes that Iran and Russia emphasize  increasing transit through it.

He noted that according to the agreement between Iran and Russia, a target of 10 million tons of transit goods per year had been set, and solutions should be adopted to achieve this goal through rail, road and sea networks.

Afandizadeh pointed out that speeding up and facilitating the passage of trucks from Russia and the Republic of Azerbaijan to Iran is an important issue because transit, import, export and transportation of goods by road between Iran and Russia are carried out through the Republic of Azerbaijan.

He added that one of the important issues in rail transportation is the participation in the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway line, which technical, financial and legal working groups have been formed between Iran and Russia.

Iran's deputy minister of roads and urban development said that participation in constructing the Rasht-Astara railway line could connect Bandar Abbas, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Russia and Northern Europe.

He said Russia is interested in investing in Iran's northern ports of Anzali and Amirabad and southern ports of Bandar Abbas and Chabahar.
