Tehran (IP) - Iran's President has congratulated Mohammed Shia' Sabbar al-Sudani, Iraq's newly elected Prime Minister.

Iran PressIran news: Mohammed Sabbar al-Sudani has served as Iraq's Prime Minister since 27 October 2022. He was the Human Rights Minister of Iraq in the Council of Ministers of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki from 2010 until October 2014.

In a Friday message, Raisi wished success for al-Sudani in forming a new cabinet following Iraqi lawmakers' vote for the politician to be the next premier of Iraq.

The Iranian president hoped for the new government of Iraq to take steps in line with the country's progress.

He noted that a powerful, independent, and flourishing Iraq could play a positive and constructive role in enhancing security in the region.

As to the Islamic Republic of Iran's support for the political process in Iraq on the basis of the Iraqi people's intention, he said that Tehran would spare no effort in expanding brotherly ties with Baghdad.

He also expressed hope that the brotherly relationship would develop during the tenure of the new prime minister based on civilization, culture, and popular depth.
