Tehran (IP) - Iran's navy opened the International Maritime Security Cooperation Center with the presence of the members of the third meeting of the maritime security working group of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS).

Iran PressIran News: Chief Commander of Iran's Navy, Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, said at the opening ceremony of the International Maritime Security Cooperation: "Simultaneously with the meeting of the maritime security working group of the IONS, we opened this center on the northern edge of the Indian Ocean and Makran coast as one of the most important and strategic coastal areas in the world."

The Iranian commander further noted that the navy has been selected as the co-chair of the third meeting of the maritime security working group of the IONS for the second consecutive period and will not give up any efforts to promote this important regional symposium.

He added: "The opportunity to access the sea and use this great gift provides the possibility of growth and development in various dimensions for everyone, and the proper use of this divine gift requires security, expertise, and of course, collaboration and cooperation.

"No country alone has been able to provide security in this vast expanse of water, and in the age of information explosion, the need for centers to collect, categorize, prioritize, and share information is inevitable. Therefore, the navy decided to launch this important center with the cooperation and participation of all military and organizations of the country related to the sea and its security, and it intends to create the ground for further cooperation with friendly countries and provide better maritime security."

In the end, the commander of the navy noted: "This force has not spared any effort to improve security, and it welcomes the face-to-face and non-face-to-face participation of the naval forces of friendly countries, and it will provide the necessary grounds for establishing fast and effective communication with similar centers."

In an interview with the Iran Press correspondent, the head of the International Maritime Security Cooperation Center referred to the mission of this center and said: "This center provides unclassified and white information to the agreed countries on the Internet."

According to him, the services provided by the center are in the field of monitoring and carrying out various maritime operations such as rescue, environmental pollution investigation, and assistance in accidents such as flooding, fire, etc.

Earlier, the third meeting of the maritime security working group of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) was held in Tehran with the presence of the member countries of the symposium, hosted by the Navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and co-chaired by Iran and India.

The meeting was held with the presence of representatives of the naval forces of India, Pakistan, Thailand, Bangladesh and the Sultanate of Oman.
