Iran Press/ Middle East: Bashar al-Assad was meeting with representatives of Palestinian groups in Damascus on Wednesday.
He said that unity among the Palestinian people is the basis of their power in their struggle against the occupying regime of Israel and reclaiming their rights as well as the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
The Syrian president also said that the Palestinian issue is the main cause of the Arab-Israeli conflict, and should be the basis of mutual cooperation among Arab states.
Al-Assad called on Arab countries to take an effective approach towards plots hatched by the Zionist regime and its supporters, especially the US, to have dominance over the region.
He went on to say that what is happening currently across the Palestinian territories indicates that the new generations are also supportive of resistance against Israel, and added that resistance is not a viewpoint but the basis of reclaiming rights.
The Syrian president reaffirmed his country’s support for the Palestinian struggle against continuous acts of aggression by the Zionist regime.
He stressed that resistance is the only way to free Palestinian land and drive out the occupiers.
The Palestinian representatives on their part expressed gratitude towards Syria for its support of the Palestinian cause.
