The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) has become the world’s largest regional organization, Russian President says.

Iran PressEurope: "SCO has become the world’s largest regional organization, with over 1/2 of the global population, accounting for about 25% of global GDP, with powerful intellectual and technological potential and a considerable part of global natural resources," Russian Embassy in the UK tweeted, citing President Vladimir Putin.

Shanghai Cooperation Organization is an international intergovernmental organization established in June 2001 in Shanghai, China, by Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, and India and Pakistan joined this organization in June 2017.

Iran also officially joined the SCO at the 22nd SCO summit on Sep.16 on Friday.

The Islamic Republic’s full membership in the SCO was announced by the president of Uzbekistan.

China, Russia, India, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan attended the 22nd SCO summit.
