Samarkand(IP)- At the 22nd summit of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which Uzbekistan is hosting, the official full membership of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the organization was announced.

Iran PressAsia: On Friday – September 16, 2022 - and at the 22nd summit of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which is being held in the city of Samarkand, hosted by Uzbekistan, the total membership of Iran in the Shanghai Organization was officially announced by the President of Uzbekistan accompanied by applause from the audience.

The 22nd summit of the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization started in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, an hour ago, with the presence of the Islamic President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, and the chairmanship of the President of Uzbekistan, Shaukat Mirzayev.

The heads of states of China, Russia, India, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan and Zhang Ming, the Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and Ruslan Mirzayev the head of the Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, were attending the event.

The summit of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is held every year with a focus on the strategy of multilateral cooperation and priority areas of development, dealing with essential issues and strengthening the economic and political cooperation of the members.

Iran's President  Ebrahim Raisi, who traveled to Samarkand at the official invitation of his Uzbek counterpart, started his three-day trip on Wednesday, September 23. On the first day of the trip, after bilateral meetings between Tehran and Tashkent, 17 cooperation documents were signed between the two countries.

On the first day, Iran's membership documents in the Shanghai Organization were signed by Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

On the second day of the trip, Raisi met and talked with the heads of the countries of Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and the Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and listed the development of neighborhood and regional relations as the fundamental policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Meeting with Iranian businessmen in Uzbekistan, attending prayers at the Samarkand mosque, and planting memorial saplings were other plans of the President on the second day of the trip.

Iran's President met with the Presidents of China and Belarus today, and after attending the summit, he will leave Tashkent for Tehran.
