The US ambassador to the United Nations International Organizations in Vienna, continuing the tactic of blaming Iran, claimed on Tuesday that Washington is ready to return to the 2015 nuclear deal, but Iran is not eager to resume the implementation of the agreement.

Iran PressEurope: The United States, under former President Donald Trump, abandoned the Iran nuclear agreement, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in May 2018 and reinstated unilateral sanctions that the agreement had lifted under what he called the “maximum pressure” policy against Tehran.

The talks to salvage the agreement kicked off in the Austrian capital city of Vienna in April last year, months after Joe Biden succeeded Trump, with the intention of examining Washington’s seriousness in rejoining the deal and removing the anti-Iran sanctions.

Despite notable progress, Washington’s indecisiveness has postponed reaching an agreement between the negotiating parties.

"Despite Iran’s continued escalations, we have remained steadfast in our efforts to return to the JCPOA, which is a vital instrument for addressing the international community’s longstanding concerns with Iran’s nuclear program. We stand ready to quickly implement a deal on a mutual return to full implementation of the JCPOA. What we lack is a willing partner in Iran. Should Iran choose to join us, a mutual return to JCPOA implementation would be a significant achievement of international diplomacy and mark a new opportunity for building confidence in Iran’s nuclear program going forward. We remain committed to working with our allies and partners to achieve that outcome if Iran is willing to do so," Laura Holgate said in a statement to the IAEA Board of Governors meeting.

"A mutual return to JCPOA implementation would lead to expanded work for the IAEA in resuming the necessary verification and monitoring of Iran’s nuclear-related commitments under the deal," said Holgate elsewhere in the statement.

However, the US ambassador made no mention of the commitments that Joe Biden's administration had assumed under the agreement, but Trump simply abandoned them and re-imposed the oppressive sanctions against the Iranian nation.
